How to connect the IoT Gateway

published on 02 September 2022

Connecting an oqdo IoT Gateway to the oqdo Cloud is quite easy. There is no Public IP address, VPN or Domain name required. The connection is secured by state-of-the-art security mechanisms and IT standards.

Internet is already available

In this case internet is already available on the Operations LAN or the IT Department will provide an Internet access through this LAN.

The oqdo IoT Gateway needs only a single Network Interface which is connected to the existing LAN. The Gateway can talk to the Building Automation Devices (DDCs) and to the Internet via that interface.

We recommend setting up a static IP adress with static Gateway adress. To use a dynamic IP adress provided via DHCP is also possible.

Internet is accessible via a router

In this scenario we find an Operations LAN which has no Internet Access. The Internet Access is provided via a separate Internet Router.

Operations LAN and Internet are separated.

The oqdo IoT Gateway needs two Network Interfaces.

We recommend setting up a static IP adress without Gateway adress for LAN 1 and DHCP for LAN 2.

No Internet available - use a GSM Router

In some cases it might get hard to connect to the Internet since the Infrastructure is not available or the Operations LAN and the Internet Access shall be separted, but the Infrastructure isn't ready. This is where GSM comes into place.
